Disaster survivors across Texas are being asked to raise their own property taxes to pay for recovery and relief – even though Governor Greg Abbott has repeatedly used his executive authority to set aside surplus funding for emergencies in the past.
We demand that Governor Abbott establish a $500 million Texas Forever Fund to support disaster-impacted Texans with immediate relief and individual assistance, public infrastructure and safety for local communities, and to get people back into their homes. Because we know more storms, floods, and fires are coming, this fund should be permanent and be used to provide relief for disaster survivors across Texas.
